At first I could’ve swore it was a girl, I just knew it inside. My hips and face started filling out very quickly much like with Giada and all the signs and symptoms pointed directly to a girl. So much for that motherly instinct…
At my first prenatal check, the baby’s heart rate was 165. It’s an old wives tale that the higher the rate the greater the indication of the gender being female. For example, Giada’s was always in the 150s range and Marco, 135.
My face plumped up and my hips rounded out, 2 things I couldn’t be more happy about (I’ve had a bit of a struggle putting on weight ever since giving birth the last time) and although these were all good signs, they also served as additional indicators that another girl was on the way. With Giada I gained 32lbs and it was the all over, everywhere kind of weight yet with Marco, I only gained 25 and it was strictly in the baby bump.
So you can imagine my reaction when the doctor’s office told me it was a boy! All of the sudden, all those pink fairy-tale visions had to be taken down and reconstructed into boy ones filled with (more) trucks and building block toys. The pinks and ruffles in my mind had to be immediatley replaced with blues and airplanes and it took a day or so, but after the news settled in I am actually very, very excited to be having another boy right now.
For one, Marco just outgrew his clothes, now I can save a bundle just keeping them around. Second, for all those times Giada is in her “girl moods” and wants to play barbies by herself, consequently ending up ignoring little Marco Man and not letting him play along, Marco now has his very own playmate. One that will be only a year apart from him!
My confusion quickly turned into excitement, another little boy… how perfect. Now comes the fun part, picking a name. Jack and I had our kid’s names picked out within the first three months of dating (how cheesy is that), so we’ve never played the name game before. It’s a lot harder than I thought, but I’m sure one will settle on us and come to us soon. In fact, I already have two top contenders in mind.
I want to thank everyone who’s sent me well wishes and prayers since my latest blog post, they mean more than you will ever know.
